Who we are

Qvi Svmvs

Legio XIIII GMV Cohort II is a nonprofit Roman living history and reenactment group dedicated to accurately portraying soldiers of Legio XIIII Gemina and their civilian counterparts in the 1st century A.D. As part of a nationwide organization, we bring ancient Rome to life through immersive educational experiences, historical demonstrations, and public events.

Our organization is composed of multiple cohorts with members located throughout the United States, allowing us to participate in Roman reenactment events, living history program, and educational outreach across a wide geographic area. We maintain strict standards of historical authenticity, safety, and research-based interpretation to ensure an engaging and accurate representation of Roman military and civilian life.

As a regional detachment, Cohort II represents Legio XIIII GMV at events, conducts Roman military drills and demonstrations, and welcomes new members interested in historical reenactment and experimental archaeology. Through collaboration with the larger Legion, our members participate in national events and contribute to a unified mission of preserving and presenting Roman history.

Our goal is to transform history from text into experience, providing interactive, educational Roman reenactment displays that engage audiences of all ages and inspire a deeper understanding of the ancient world.

Docendo discimus-By teaching, we learn

The more we teach others about Rome and the Roman army, the more we deepen our own understanding. Every question asked pushes us to research further and refine what we know.

We are never truly just teachers, we are lifelong students of history. Always learning, always improving, and always stiving to better understand the world of ancient Rome.

Based in historic York, Pennsylvania, our Cohort is proudly centralized in the heart of the Mid-Atlantic. While York serves as our home base for planning, training, and local appearances, our membership extends along the entire eastern seaboard, bringing together dedicated individuals from multiple states who share a passion for living history. Many of our events are conveniently located within a 4-8 hour drive of York, allowing us to maintain a strong regional presence while drawing on the diverse talents of members from across the East Coast.
