New to Living History?
-
You're Exactly Who We're Looking For!
You don’t need experience
You don’t need expensive equipment
You don’t need a vast knowledge of Roman history.
If you’re curious about history and willing to learn, we will help with the rest!
Join a community that brings the Roman World to life, one event, one drill and one campfire at a time.
-
Step 1: Contact Us
The hardest step is always the first one! A simple email can get you started in your living history journey.
We will answer your questions and help you decide whether Roman living history is right for you.
-
Step 2: Meet Your Mentor And The Cohort
You will never be alone in this journey! Once you join, we will assign a seasoned Mentor who will help you put together your kit, answer questions, and show you the ropes. Not only will your mentor help you, but so will every other member of the Cohort.
-
Step 3: Attend Your First Event
Showing up is the most intimidating part, but we are glad you came! We don’t expect you to know everything, have all your gear, or engage with the public. We have plenty of loaner gear to get you into the field. Absolutely no experience is necessary and there’s no pressure to dive head first into talking to the public.
-
Step 4: Build Your Kit
Putting your kit together is what we consider your “dues” for joining. We will help you build a historically accurate impression over time. Piece your kit together at your own pace.
-
Step 5: Become A Part Of The Legion
Before you know it, you will be a fully kitted out member of the Legion. You will engage with the public with ease, help set up camp, and help new recruits as a seasoned member!
-
The Cost
Building an authentic Roman kit definitely is not cheap. Everything said and done, you can expect to spend up to $1000 for a decent kit. That includes clothing, shoes, armor, weapons, tools, mess kits, etc.
The best part, with our loaner gear, you can supplement what you don’t have so you don’t have to get everything at once.
-
So Why Join?
One thing that surprises almost every new member is most of our time isn’t spent fighting in armor. It’s spent laughing around the camp fire, sharing meals, teaching visitors, researching history, improving our kit, and building friendships that last long after the event ends.
The armor may attract people to Roman living history, but it’s the community that keeps them coming back.
